Getting Organized

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

I think I need one of these custom printed calendars to hang right by my bed to write on at night before I go to bed because that seems to be when I think of all the things I need to do, and lately, I’ve had a lot of things to do.

I really need to work on getting myself more organized. It always seems like the first few weeks of classes are really hectic and busy and throw me off kilter. I think if were a little more organized, it would be less stressful. Of course, I just have to find the time to get organized. Most of the time I’m too tired to bother.

Monday Monday Monday

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

My grandpa deserves one of these new pocket watches because he’s basically my hero. Monday, my tire blew out on my way to class. My grandpa had to come and pick me up, take me to class and then he changed my tire, using the spare. If left to my own devices, I probably would have been stranded on the side of the road.

The rest of the week hasn’t gone too well either, but I’m too tired to explain it all right now. Maybe after a nap, I’ll have the energy to revisit my horrible week.

Business Cards Made Easy

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

As a graphic design major, I feel more than capable to create my own logo design, but I know that not everyone feels comfortable doing such a thing. That’s why it’s important to have options that can make designing things for your business easier.

Logoyes.com is one of those places that helps make things easier for you. I designed a business card using their free demo, and it only took a few short minutes of my time in a step by step process that was easy to follow, making it a breeze to create something that looked both interesting and professional.

If you don’t believe me, you can try it yourself for free!

New Semester

Monday, January 21st, 2008

So the new semester of classes has begun. I’m not even going to lie. It’s pretty daunting right now. I already feel like I have so much to do, and I suspect this feeling is going to carry on throughout the whole semester since it is my last one. It’s pretty scary, honestly, but, hopefully, these classes will prepare me for going out and trying to find a full time job in graphic design.

Speaking of which, I have an interview tomorrow about making some labels for a company. I’m nervous. I won’t lie. I’m just trying not to think about it too much.

I guess I got off easier this semester than my sister. Her classes are hard. I can’t imagine trying to work the sort of hours she does and get my homework done. I don’t know how she manages. I think she’ll be glad to get through the nursing program and gets into what she really wants to be doing. She complains a lot about employee performance evaluation at work because the state will come in and watch and see if they’re doing things how they’ll supposed to, but she says some of the stuff they’re supposed to be doing is stuff no one’s ever even mentioned to her. I don’t know. I can’t imagine. But then I guess that’s why I’m going for graphic design.

Money Management

Monday, January 14th, 2008

I went shopping last Friday with my grandma and found some really good buys at Goody’s. I got three shirts and some yoga pants for about $40. Score! I was really excited. I’ve been in dire need of some new shirts.

The spring semester of classes started today. I had two classes, and I felt dead the whole time I was in both. I am not a morning person.

Then I hung out with Shakti and her boyfriend, Keith, between classes. We ate at Burger King and then hung out at her apartment. Then we were almost late for our next class because it was later than we thought. Why must time fly when you’re having fun?

I found out today that the Humane Society chose to use my template for their info cards, which is really just awesome. And Shakti said she saw one of my Rescue Mission posters hanging up in the hospital. Awesome, again. I’m hoping to spot one while I’m out and about. Kyle said he’d try to get a copy for everyone in the class.

I also have to buy a portfolio binder, which is going to be pricey, but necessary. I’m not looking forward to doing presentations and such this semester, but I suppose it’s a necessary evil. Too bad I totally just spent about $100 on bras and some hoodies. I need to learn more about how to manage my money. I’m terrible.

I was totally rocking out in my car on the way home. I love my iPod adapter. If I had the money, I would so be getting some sweet car spoilers on my car. Of course, if I had the money, I’d be buying myself a car that wasn’t a piece of poo.

The best part of the day, though? It had to be hearing “Something Going Round” by Hanson playing in Burger King during lunch. Oh yeah.
