Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk 2007
Friday, August 24th, 2007

If you know anyone with Alzheimer’s, then you’re probably familiar with the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk 2007. If you don’t know, then let me explain. The Memory Walk is a nation wide fund raiser event with the goal of raising awareness. Anyone can volunteer to participate in the 2-3 mile walk held during one weekend this fall.

It’s easy to join or to start your own team. All you have to do is find a walk near you. Don’t worry! It’s fairly simple to find one. Just put in your zip code and you’ll get a list of walks in your surrounding area. Then just register to join a team. If there isn’t a team in your area, then you can start your own team by becoming a Team Captain. Just by inviting three people and getting those three people to invite three more, you can easily form a team in your area. If you’re not sure about becoming a team captain, you can find a guide to becoming a team captain that will help answer your questions and give you tips on how to go about getting started.

This is an important issue, and I think that if you can help find a way to raise awareness and help eliminate Alzheimer’s just by walking a few miles, it’s definitely worth your time. Personally, I plan to spread the word and hopefully get my family and friends involved in the local walk taking place in late September.

Sleepy
Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Man, I’m tired. I slept in today, but I’m still sleepy. I’m really not looking forward to going into class tonight. I think I’ll be lucky if I can stay awake. I thought about taking a nap before I go in, but I don’t know if I’ll actually do it. I’ll also have to find something to eat before I go since I’m there from 6 to 8:50. I’m kind of hoping my grandma will cook dinner early tonight.

I got the movie The Number 23 today. I’ll probably wait and watch it tomorrow since I don’t have anything to do or watch tomorrow. The only thing I really hate is that we don’t really have a very good set up for watching movies. We have a DVD player in the computer room, but the chair really isn’t that comfortable. I also don’t really like watching it on the computer because it kind of hurts my eyes. Then in the living room the couch isn’t very comfortable either. I wish we had the space for home theater seating. I think that would be so cool and comfortable. Maybe someday.

Tonight during one of my classes, one of my classmates was talking about the road trip she went on this summer. For years, my best friend and I have talked about going on a road trip as soon as we’ve got a reliable car and saved up enough money to go. I’m incredible anxious to see that day come. However, the only downside is that I’m complete rubbish when it comes to directions. Luckily, with a site like PublicRoutes.com to refer to, it should help alleviate some of my directionally challenged worries. Whether you need an Atlanta map or a Chicago map, it can help you get where you want to go.

Swampy
Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Today was my first day of classes. Overall, it wasn’t too bad, but, boy, am I tired! I was basically at the school from 1:30 to 9 for two different classes. I have another class tomorrow from 6 to 8:50. I don’t mind the classes themselves. It just makes for a long day. Between the two classes, I went to Wendy’s with my friend Shakti to get something to eat, so that helped pass the hour between the two classes.

My stomach is kind of bothering me now, though. I probably shouldn’t have gotten a sandwich and went for the salad like I was planning to. Although my stomach has been bothering me a bit the last couple of days. I don’t really know why. I figure I probably need to start taking some sort of nutritional supplements to balance things out with my diet. I also really need to start walking again. I’ll probably have to do it without my mom because she’s been sick the last couple of days. I just wish it wasn’t so hot and humid outside. This weather has been crazy lately. It feels like a swamp. Yuck.

I got my Rilo Kiley CD in the mail today. I’m just now getting around to listening to it, though. I’ve been kind of sidetracked. I started thinking about one of my stories that’s basically been finished for months now, and how there was this one section that I just didn’t like. It was sort of a transition section, and I just felt like it was missing something. I basically felt that way when I wrote it, but I couldn’t decide what to do to fix it. While I was in the shower today, I had an idea. So I came in here and started writing. I wound up with about seven more pages. I didn’t actually end up adding anymore chapters to the story, but I just wound up changing the way the chapters came together. I still need to edit, and it’s rather angsty, which I don’t think I do often, so I hope it turned out alright.

I was listening to one of the XM radio stations on satellite earlier and they were talking about Amy Winehouse. I like her song “Rehab,” but, ironically, she’s currently in drug rehab. I’m not sure if she was supposed to preform at the MTV Music Awards or was just nominated, but they weren’t sure if she’d be out of rehab by then. I guess she’ll have to change the lyrics of her song because not only did the try to make her go to rehab, they seem to have succeeded.

I watched the movie Hard Candy last night. I’m not entirely sure what I think of it. I don’t think it’s one of those movies where you can say you just loved it. It made me think more than anything else, and, actually, really creeped me out. I’m glad I didn’t ask my grandma if she wanted to watch it with me. That would have been awkward. I just don’t know. I think I liked it mostly because it just made me think and go “whoa.”
